We had another successful night walk and this time got to see her lay her eggs. When I first approached her she was just digging her egg chamber so we gave her about 15-minutes and then I checked on her again. Sure enough, she was laying her eggs! The next morning we marked it off and protected the nest. This marks nest #82! This morning we found a total of six nests, making our total 86. Here are the photos of nest # 82, the one from the night walk:

Thank you, Leah, for posting photos of Nest #82. I was on the Night Walk June 9th, and was thrilled to be able to see the loggerhead turtle lay her eggs. I walked with the Turtle Patrol nearly every morning of the two weeks I was at Edisto Beach and got to observe these dedicated volunteers go about their work at several nests -- sometimes it was a false crawl, sometimes they had to move the nest above the high tide line, and sometimes they were able to leave the nest and just take the DNA sample. I have never had the pleasure of seeing the baby turtles hatch and head to the water but hope to be able to witness this amazing event some day. Thanks again for a great evening!

Thank-you Cheryl, I am so pleased to hear you have had a great time learning about our sea turtles! It really is a privilege to have a program that allows people to interact with nature in its natural habitat. Maybe soon we can fulfil your dream of seeing the baby turtles hatch. Thanks again!
