Through the sea turtle conservancy, you can adopt various sea turtles! So I thought it would be fun to adopt a sea turtle for each turtle season. So for the 2016 sea turtle patrol season we adopted, Kreacher! This loggerhead turtle is a sub-adult, weighing approximately 100 pounds. She went through rehab at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida after she was found on May 8th (one day after our first nest on Edisto). She was treated for gastrointestinal issues. They found her floating and very distressed with moderate edema. Edema is a condition in which fluid collects in body cavities and tissues. After a CT scan was conducted, they found shells in her esophagus and her gastrointestinal tract, causing the buoyancy. After a good couple months of rehab she was feeling much better so they fitted her with a satellite tag, prior to her release. She was released on June 21st. With this satellite tag we can see where Kreacher travels to. It is thought that Kreacher found a feeding ground as she seems to be hanging around the same area. See below for the satellite tracking of Kreacher, as well as our adoption certificate. You can keep up to date with the travels of Kreacher by clicking the link below:
